SINGER Underbraider and Quilter Attachment with Quilt Guide

Vintage SINGER Underbraider and Quilt Guide Attachment
includes instructions and a made-for-you sample
$95.00 (non blackside set)

An uncommon little attachment (underbraider) to go with a more common one (quilter) - now let’s see what it does....!

Originally supplied at Singer Sewing Centers for Singer Sewing Machine Owners... shown here to fit your Featherweight 221 or 222K, but will work on any low, vertical shank Singer Sewing Machine
(i.e. 15, 66, 99, 127, 128, 185, 192, 201, 206, 306, 319, 328, etc...)

This is an original Singer part and not a reproduction...
genuinely vintage!

An UNDER BRAIDER - attachment applies braid to the fabric on the front side but stitching from the backside of the fabric... instead of stitching it on the top of the braid, it stitches through from the bottom of the braid while applying it to the top of the fabric...

Pay close attention, because this is a special edition showing sampling of the Underbraider... Your imagination and wonderment will certainly be captured... that is, of course, if you like rick rack as much as I do..........

..... What's that? Did I say 'Rick Rack'? With an Under Braider?.....

Why yes - I most certainly did. After all, Rick Rack is a type of braid!

One thing that is of utmost importance ~ the Quilt Guide shown in this listing is included... it MUST be included because the underbraider will not work properly without it. I tried (just for a test) with using the regular presser foot and crumpled, rippled and anti-smooth flow of stitching resulted. The Quilter Arm-Guide is removed and just the foot is used.

It might be hard to see, but I traced some curves, waves and even loops on the backside of the fabric, then followed along (with the rick rack braid fed from underneath - hence, the 'under' braider) with the quilt guide. It was surprisingly smooth, even around curves and loops. Sometimes going really slow is necessary and other times, smooth, fast motion is appropriate depending on design. You will definitely want to practice. Baby rick rack is the size that appropriately fits the Under Braider attachment.

This is such an ‘Under’estimated Fashion Aid Attachment, isn’t it!

Imagine adding this to a quilt block... or adorning a Christmas stocking, or a Baby's receiving blanket... Everything looks better with Rick-Rack ~ it's simply a "happy" embellishment to look at!

There is a lot of activity going on this photograph... the rick rack is fed from the card (which I usually have in my lap, so it hangs straight), it is guided through the underbraider simultaneously being stitched while the fabric is fed through ~ creating a lovely trim at the hem.

Now, before I let you go, I want you to take note of this last little sample. It is one photograph, but it should not be missed.... Can you see how I am stitching the rick rack to the pre-made bias tape? Carefully stitching (this is where you want to go slow) down the center of one side of the white bias, the red baby rick rack is attached to the front side of the bias tape. This then becomes a recreation of what I have seen in some vintage trim collections. Pre-made bias tape used to be available this way!

The trim companies today are not what they used to be... but no matter to us - when we make use of our wonderful Singer-Attachments!

RICK-RACK BIAS TAPE... Look how I trimmed the hem of my daughter's Easter skirt...
