One of the most elusive mysteries of all Singer Sewing Machine Attachments.  Not only can you see what it looks like ‘for real’, but here is your chance to own a complete set.  Most Attachment collectors have only had the privilege of seeing this attachment illustrated in old Singer Teacher’s Textbooks! Using fine fabrics such as silk, this attachment creates a tubular trim for embellishing heirloom garment sewing.

Carmon (my husband) handcrafted the hook to be identical to an original. The originals are often fragile from age and have been known to break. This hook works perfectly and grabs the material fibers for easy pulling through the tube of the attachment. 

Using the original Singer Stiletto (it has tiny teeth at the end), you help maneuver the fabric through the first step of Tubular Trimming process. Once you’ve got your fabric aligned correctly in the attachment as well as under the needle - following the directions carefully, the hook works very similarly to a bodkin . . . securing the fibers into the little hook at the end - you feed it through to get started . . . then you work with your right hand on the fabric tubing as you guide the other portion of the fabric through the attachment with your left hand.

There is definitely a learning curve and it takes lots and lots of time, patience and most of all, practice. Having the right fabric and cording is important, too. I used very fine silk and cotton cording.

Because I had the exact color thread in my supplies I chose to do a quick hand stitch on the surface, just barely catching the tubular trim’s silk threads with each stitch. For an even more floating effect, you can keep the bulk of your stitches on the backside.
