Singer Featherweight 222 / 222K Sewing Machine

It has been said that only about 10,000 of these kind of Featherweights were made worldwide but we will never know the exact number - perhaps more, perhaps less... You will be owning one of the best sewing machines ever made. Sometimes referred to as the "221 Free-Arm" by those who are not familiar with the model 222K - these Featherweight Sewing Machines were manufactured identically to the original 221 but with two additional (highly desirable!) features:

Convertible Flat Bed into Tubular Bed or Free-Arm
Allowing easier application of sleeves and cuffs...
or any hard-to-reach seaming.

All 222K’s were manufactured in Scotland beginning in 1954. Their engineering and design were very labor intensive and it was later determined that manufacturing them was not as cost-effective as originally hoped. Production ceased of all Featherweight 222’s (222K’s) in 1961.
Today, the 222 Free-Arm Featherweight is considered one of the most highly collectable and desirable Singer Sewing Machines. This is why it is not uncommon to see them sell for as low as $900 and as high as $4250. (of course, varying on condition and seller reputability)
Collectable, yes - but certainly PRACTICAL!
Oh! My! Word! is it ever the best machine I have ever owned. I seriously am in love with mine and definitely feel a "bond" to it. Easily convertible to aid in sewing my daughter's dress sleeves, getting around odd-shaped seams and curvatures and much, much more . . . not to mention the Free-Motion Machine Embroidery you can now so easily accomplish by dropping the feed dogs. (Something you cannot do on a traditional Featherweight 221.)
Truly, you will just be amazed!

Singer Featherweight 222 / 222K Sewing Machine - Motor Has Been Converted for North American Electrical Compatibility
Regarding the Motor...
The Featherweight 222 / 222K’s that I offer are always USA and CANADA (North American) electrically compatible! That is, they run on 110 voltage / current. You will not need to purchase a separate voltage converter.
Just plug it in and sew!
Because the majority of these machines were made for United Kingdom and European 220 voltage, the motor and electrical components are not compatible in the USA and Canada. Ordinarily then, you would either need a converter (albeit cheaper, but not as practical, desirable or as attractive), or the better alternative, have it completely changed to accommodate our electricity.
That is what has been done with this machine. Motor and electrical components are all replaced or electrically changed with original Featherweight parts compatible for North American electricity. All machines go through an electrical-safety inspection... of vital importance when making the upgrade, and most importantly, to have the assurance that your sewing machine is safe to "today's" electrical standards.
All you have to do is plug it in and begin sewing!
Professionally serviced, your Singer Featherweight 222 / 222K Free-Arm Sewing Machine will sew a nice, smooth, even forward and reverse stitch. Motor is strong and runs smoothly!
Cosmetically, machines can vary. While some seamstresses used their machines frequently year after year, others used them hardly at all. As a general rule I like to trade with a grade 8 or above. Occasionally, however, a Singer Featherweight machine of lesser caliber will come through the shoppe, but you will always have the option of choosing which one you prefer based on price, condition and inclusions. An original Featherweight 222 case is always included with purchase as well as many attachments.
For your own personal knowledge: Most Featherweight 221 cases will not work with a 222 sewing machine. All Featherweight 222 Sewing Machines are just a fraction taller than a 221 preventing appropriate fit in most 221 cases.
Also included is a 222K manual.  It will either be an original and / or a superior-quality replica.  Believe me, the original manuals are very hard to come by as they were easily torn, lost or thrown out. But, in case your machine includes an original, you may want to preserve it, so I always include the reproduction in addition for confident reference.
